This tutorial is for those users of locked iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, who updated to iOS 5.0.1 and realized that ultrasn0w unlock doesn’t work there.

Indeed DevTeam have not updated software unlock utility ultrasn0w to work with the latest iOS 5.0.1. There are two workarounds, that will make ultrasn0w work on 5.0.1.

Ultrasn0w was updated to support old baseband on new iOS 4.3.3.

Here is the list of supported basebands:

• iPhone 4: 01.59.00
• iPhone 3G/3GS: 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, 06.15.00.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 (for unlockers with old baseband) is available in Cydia.

You can update to iOS 4.3.3 and preserve old baseband using two utilities. Here are step-by-step instructions:

DevTeam released much anticipated untethered jailbreak for the latest iOS 4.3.1 – RedSn0w 0.9.6 rc9 and PwngeTool 4.3.

The 4.3.1 untether works on all Apple devices that support 4.3.1 except for the iPad2:

• iPhone 3GS
• iPhone 4 (GSM)
• iPod Touch 3G
• iPod Touch 4G
• iPad 1
• AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)

Redsnow is easy to use, it is available for Windows and Mac OS. Pwnagetool can be used to create custom ipsw and preserve baseband, it supports Mac OS only.

These are instructions on how to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool 4.1.3 for Mac OS X. This tutorial will explain how to upgrade your baseband if needed for an unlock.

Step One
Make a folder called “Pwnage” on the desktop. Download a couple of things:

• PwnageTool 4.1.3 from here

You will also need the 4.2.1 iPhone firmware.

• iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1: iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

If you are on the 05.14 or 05.15 baseband you will also need the iPad 3.2.2 firmware. You can find out your baseband version in Settings -> General -> About -> Modem Firmware.

• iPad iOS 3.2.2: iPad1,1_3.2.2_7B500_Restore.ipsw

When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox since Safari often auto extracts it!

Step Two
Double click to mount PwnageTool then drag the PwnageTool icon into the Pwnage folder.

each FW version has unique blobs. But using http://is.gd/dskh9 you can get 4.0 blobs on PC while you stay at 3.1.2
